Pine Lake Camp is a ministry of The Salvation Army. Our mission is to be a place of retreat and renewal, enabling those who come to experience God’s creation and the love of Jesus.

PLC Discipleship Program (May 13 – August 23)

We offer a 6 week pre-camp discipleship program that has been designed to target university/college age individuals. Beginning in May staff will live in Edmonton and participate in daily teaching, hands on learning and service in various Salvation Army ministries/programs. The salary throughout this program will be determined by the position that the individual has been hired for.

NOTE: space is limited so acceptance will be based on an interview. Only those who have been hired as summer camp staff are eligible for the program.

Summer Mission Team (August 10-23)

All Program Staff (i.e. Cabin Leaders, Program Lead Team) will be deployed for the last 2 weeks of the summer to various Salvation Army locations. Staff will be responsible for planning, promoting and implementing a quality day camp program that will help to build bridges between campers and the local Salvation Army. Regular salary will be continued throughout this period.

NOTE: All summer staff must hold a current Standard First Aid + CPR certification. Check www.sja.ca for courses in your area.

Additionally, all staff must be cleared through The Salvation Army’s security clearance protocol. This includes a current Criminal Record Check (no more than 3 years old), consent to a search of The Salvation Army’s internal abuse registry and completion of The Salvation Army’s Abuse Prevention Training.

Assistant Program Director – Administration (May 6 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Work with the Asst. Program Director (LIT) and the Program Director to develop and implement a quality Christian summer camping program. Assist the Program Director in all required duties including camper registration, staff training, daily program facilitation, staff schedules and supervision, camper discipline and fostering spiritual growth in campers and staff. Responsibilities include facilitating Bible guests and worship times, planning and/or leading recreational activities (ex: camp wide games, rain day activities, evening programs, tenting program, etc.) and the operation of challenge activities (i.e. low ropes course, climbing wall). Additionally, this individual will lead a 2 week Alberta mission trip to an assigned Salvation Army ministry unit at the end of the summer (August 10-23).

  • Minimum 2 seasons camp experience (some Camp Lead Team experience is ideal)
Assistant Program Director – LIT Program (May 6 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Work with the Asst. Program Director (Administration) and the Program Director to develop and implement a quality Christian summer camping program. Assist the Program Director in all required duties including staff training, daily program facilitation (see Asst. Program Director – Administration), staff schedules and supervision, camper discipline and fostering spiritual growth in campers and staff. Responsibilities will also include planning and implementing a quality leadership and discipleship program (students Gr. 8-10), offsite overnight challenge activity (ex: camping trip) and integration into the regular camping program for hands on leadership experience. Additionally, this individual will lead a 2 week Alberta mission trip to an assigned Salvation Army location at the end of the summer (August 10-23).

  • Minimum 2 season camp experience (some Camp Lead Team experience is ideal)
Male Head Cabin Leader // Female Head Cabin Leader (May 13 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Head Cabin Leaders are responsible for ensuring the quality care of our campers by providing effective supervision of the Cabin Leaders. They will participate in all areas of camp in an effort to encourage Cabin Leaders, model appropriate Cabin Leader techniques and provide constructive feedback. Duties include assisting Cabin Leaders with camper discipline, collecting and approving weekly documentation, staff motivation, monitoring staff breaks/relief, conducting formal evaluations and encouraging spiritual growth. The individuals may lead a 2 week mission trip to an assigned Salvation Army location at the end of the summer (August 10-23).

  • Minimum 2 seasons camp experience (Cabin Leader experience is preferred)
Recreation Director (May 13 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

The Recreation Director is responsible for assisting with the creation and implementation of an innovative summer recreation program including daily recreation options (ex: low ropes, wall climb, archery, bikes, sports, etc.), camp wide games, crafts, waterfront program, tenting program and evening programs. Applicants should have knowledge of a wide range of sports and recreation activities and be able to successfully teach skills and games to groups of children. This individual may lead a 2 week mission trip to an assigned Salvation Army ministry unit at the end of the summer (August 10-23).

  • Minimum 1 season camp experience (Cabin Leader experience preferred)
  • CUI Level II Challenge Course Practitioner certification preferred
Cabin Leader (July 1 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Cabin Leaders are responsible for the oversight of cabin groups as assigned by the Assistant Program Director (8-10 campers). Their top priority is the health, safety, happiness and personal development of campers. Duties include leading campers throughout daily routines (i.e. meals, personal hygiene, sleep, etc.), encouraging the participation of each camper in all activities, broadening the interests of camper through various activities, actively participating in program options and evening program and guiding the spiritual growth of campers. Individuals will participate in a 2 week mission trip to an assigned Salvation Army ministry unit at the end of the summer (August 10-23).

  • Previous camp experience is preferred
Lifeguard (June 24 – August 17)    APPLY NOW

Lifeguards are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the pool and all associated equipment and activities. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing lifeguard duties at the pool/waterfront, conducting swimming proficiency testing, facilitating canoe trips, enforcing pool/waterfront procedures, planning and carrying out the program activities as required by the Asst. Program Directors, taking daily water samples, determining chemical requirements under the supervision of the Operations Manager and testing life vests and canoes. Other duties may be assigned from time to time. On “rain days” lifeguards will assist with the alternative programming that takes place during their shift.

  • National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification – Lifesaving Society required
  • Alberta Boating License (can be obtained online)
Camp Nurse (July 1 – August 17)   APPLY NOW

The Camp Nurse is responsible for the health and safety of all campers, staff, volunteers and visitors on the camp property. Duties include administration of  medication to campers & staff/volunteers, establish plan of health care with campers & staff/volunteers, accurate record keeping and reports, safe storage of all medical supplies, purchase/re-stock supplies as needed, help broaden campers’ understanding of health related issues, give insight into matters concerning health & safety and make recommendations to Camp Leadership Staff, assist with staff training, equip staff with appropriately stocked First Aid kits, assist with camper check-in and provide on-site triage for general illness and injuries.

  • Certification as a licensed physician, RN, LPN or Advanced First Aid (EMT-A level) required
  • Must be in good standing with CARNA

Kitchen  Support Staff (July 1 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Kitchen Support Staff are responsible for the efficient running of the camp kitchen by completing kitchen/dining hall jobs as assigned by the Cooks. Duties include food preparation, set up of tables and chairs, serving meals and snacks efficiently and courteously, waste removal, dish pit, wash tables/chairs/floors and sweep kitchen/pantry/serving areas as assigned. They will assist in organizing and implementing activities for camp staff, as assigned by the Hospitality Manager or Head Cook.

Housekeeping (July 2 – August 24)    APPLY NOW

Hospitality Staff are responsible for the daily cleanliness and organization of camp facilities. Duties include cleaning and restocking of washrooms and janitorial rooms, assisting with rentals, RV sites and campsites and assisting with operation of the canteen. Applicants will also work the maintenance team to ensure the function and cleanliness of all camp property and assist the Guest Services Manager as needed.

Maintenance Support (May 6 – August 23)    APPLY NOW

Maintenance Support staff will assist the Operations Manager in organizing maintenance work. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining proper appearance of the camp and ensuring proper operation of camp facilities through lawn maintenance, minor repairs to equipment and buildings, preparing campfires, painting, developing and maintaining bike/hiking trails, pest control/removal, occasional housekeeping duties (clean floors, sinks, toilets, etc.) and picking up garbage and recycle materials. Other duties will be assigned as required. Some weekend work may be required.

  • Experience using/maintaining small gas & electrical equipment is preferred
